HIZLI Gazeteci

Why do I need to draw this kind of risky story?

5th book: Wind Of Change

Inside the cover:

When The Wind Of Change (began in Hurriyet at the end of 1994, HIZLI Gazeteci was offended with media and got lost. But I wasnt disinterested in New Democracy Movement (a liberal party that planning many essential reforms for Turkey) that appeared suddenly in those days.

So that, first I was reluctant when I got the proposal as "do you make a comic strip about this formation" but the great emptiness of my pocket broke my resistance and I had to return again to comics art that I left.

The name of the story Wind Of Change was inspired both from the song of Scorpions (a popular German rock group) and especially from a soap opera that known as Wind Of Lies (well-known Young And Restless serial was translated as this name in a Turkish channel). Because I was commenting the atmosphere of my country as a soap opera cause there were a lot of cartoon characters with lack of deepness and sincerity.

I was planned the story's name as Soap Opera, but editor in chief had preferred Wind Of Change.

I didn't know if there was another story like this, but I have experienced a method that I have never done: I was observing daily routine of politics day by day, I was commenting and designing in a long-breathed comic story and deadline was next day's newspaper.

A note about Turkish comics: Due to the lack of organizations such as syndicates for comic strip artists and cartoonists in Turkey, artists have to submit their comic strip on their own to be able to publish. That is if publishers like it, they might ask for working with them.

I was writing and drawing refined as much as I could all those days; I was ready for the rain with lots of clouds. But I didnt see anybody who was interested in the quality of designing and dramatic constructions of work and recognizing how I was suffering while creating this works. If they liked the sentences politically in daily chapter, they were lifting me to stars with compliments and if they didn't, they were kicking me to magma.

So, I lost my interest in politics and New Democracy Movement as an immediately, then, old friend HIZLI Gazeteci had to return under spotlights.

An interesting observation: Leadership of this "movement" got bored from their political existence at the same time with me. They left holy "rescuing" ideal to old wolves and returned to their ready-business again.

Now, when I look at these works today, I'm saying "oh god, what a big burden is this!".

For god's sake, if someone else requests this kind of story again, I will act like deaf. I have learnt that to make a story like that is same as writing on water for a reader-mass who can't distinguish between article and artwork.
